Faculty of Physical Sciences & Technology

Welcome to Department of Mathematics

The Department of Mathematics is the oldest Department of the University, established in 1994 with M.Sc. and Ph.D. programmes. The Dual Degree B.Sc. (Hons.) Mathematics - M.Sc. Mathematics programme came into existence from the session 2016-17. Mathematics is a pioneer subject which finds applications in all fields of Science and Technology. The students of our Department have the opportunities of being absorbed in teaching & research programme in educational institutions and also in R&D wings of Industrial establishments. The Department is having a well-equipped Computing Lab. The Department also conducts workshops/conferences/seminars from time to time for the proper grooming of students. On the basis of the research outcomes and academic progress, Department of Science & Technology (DST), Govt. of India has identified this Department under DSTFIST Program-2017, Level-I for five years.

Vision
To excel in applications of mathematics in Science & Engineering with essentiality of the subject for modern world.

Mission

OBJECTIVE : The application of Mathematics to all branches of science is well known and it has increased many-fold during the last few decades. Knowledge of Mathematics is, therefore, imperative for carrying out research and it forms a necessary input for industrial & technological development of the country. With this aim, the Department offers a 2-years course in Mathematics at post-graduate level. The Department has adopted the UGC Model Curriculum for this course to enable the students to be engrossed in various institutions in the country and abroad. The courses taught in M.Sc. Programme are a dynamic mixture of pure and applied mathematics that include Real Analysis, Complex Analysis, Topology, Ordinary and Partial differential Equations, Mechanics, Fluid Mechanics, Mechanics of Solids, Measure & Integration Theory, Integral Equations, Differential Geometry, Functional Analysis, Abstract Algebra, Discrete Mathematics, Mathematical Methods, Computer Programming etc. Apart from the course curriculum, the group discussions, seminars, extension lectures by subject experts etc. are the integral components of this course to enhance depth knowledge of the subject.
